Renfrew’s got money for roadwork and they’re going to use it before they lose it.
That’s Infrastructure and Public Works Director Mike Asselin at Town Council’s meeting on Tuesday, March 14th, where they agreed to start the design and tender process for a $621,725 rehabilitation of Gillan Road from O’Brien Road to Hall Avenue.
He also noted the project, which was described by Council as “shave and pave,” will also feature a multi-use pathway and is one of the priority projects on the to-do list this year.
The roadwork is part of the 2023 Budget, which is on track to be finalized and passed on April 11th. However, Asselin explained to Council that green-lighting the project as soon as possible will allow them wrap up the majority of it this year.
While it is a budget item, local tax dollars will not go into the Gillan Road rehabilitation.
Instead, the costs of the project will be completely covered by a grant from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
