After a number of car crashes last week, the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP are speaking up.
They responded to 32 separate collisions on roads they patrol between Sunday, February 26th and Saturday, January 4th.
While nobody was seriously hurt, many of those crashes happened during adverse weather conditions like the heavy snow that fell late Friday, January 3rd.
It’s also part of an upward trend in car crashes: police from the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment attended 727 collisions last year, up from 568 in 2021.
They are reminding drivers to completely clear snow off their vehicle before starting out and to adjust their behavior behind the wheel in winter driving conditions.
While the OPP say most collisions on our roads and highways are minor and don’t require police assistance to clear, they do note that any crashes that result in injury, property damage more than $2,000 dollars, or damage to any highway property must be reported to the local detachment as soon as possible.
