It was a successful first weekend for the 2023 Ontario Winter Games in Renfrew County. A snow storm and blizzard like conditions didn’t stop the opening ceremonies on Thursday (February 2nd) and over a thousand athletes came to the region to compete in Futsal, Curling, Ringette, Speed Skating, Hockey, Judo, Artistic Swimming and Fencing.
The U14 Ottawa Valley Titans took home a silver medal in the men’s hockey competition and Arnprior twins Alexis and Jaidyn McGuire won bronze in ringette as members of Team Black.
There will be a second opening ceremonies held on Thursday (February 9th) as the final weekend of the Renfrew County Ontario Winter Games gets ready to kick off. The opening ceremonies will be held at Ma-te-Way in Renfrew again starting at 6:30pm.
The second weekend of competitions from February 9th to February 12th will feature alpine skiing, para alpine skiing, kickboxing, sledge hockey, squash, wushu, bowling, biathlon, cross country skiing, para nordic skiing, wrestling and weightlifting.
