Renfrew’s Winter Carnival, Frewfest, is happy to see better weather in the forecast after snow hampered sledge hockey plans when things kicked off at Ma-te-Way Park on Thursday.
Jo-anne Caldwell with the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department says they’re making the best of the situation and putting the fresh powder to good use in a snow sculpture contest.
Drop by Ma-te-Way Park to make your masterpiece, then send a picture to the Town of Renfrew’s Facebook and Instagram by 7:00am on Sunday, January 29th.
She adds that there’s plenty to do at Ma-te-Way once you’re done making your snow art, including an outdoor military display and catch a public skate session in the morning of Friday, January 27th, and hang with the Junior A Renfrew Wolves on Saturday, January 28th.
The Wolves play the Navan Grads Saturday evening starting at 7:30pm. Kids 10 and under will get in free with a paid adult ticket holder.
Also on Saturday is the Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap Meet from 11:00am to 3:00pm, and the chance to work with Queen Pin Sewing to make something to help you tough out the cold weather.
Then on Sunday, Caldwell says Little Rays Reptiles drops by Ma-te-Way Park at noon.
The event wraps up Sunday afternoon starting at 2:00pm, when the Renfrew Wolves hit the ice with the community for a the public skate at the arena.
The full weekend schedule for Frewfest can be found on the Town of Renfrew’s website.
