The County of Renfrew has handed out the Warden Community Service Awards. There are awards presented in three categories: Individual Person, Not-for-profit Business, and For-profit Business.
Darrel O’Shaughnessy of Arnprior received the individual award. County staff say O’Shaughnessy drives positive change in the greater Arnprior area. O’Shaughnessy helped establish the Arnprior Dragon Boat Club and brings his passion for volunteerism to various causes such as the Greater Arnprior Seniors Council, the Seniors Active Living Centre, the Men’s Shed and the towns corporate services advisory committee. O’Shaughnessy has three priorities; developing affordable housing, marketing the Men’s Shed and establishing a seniors advocate that reports to county council.

The Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance (OVCATA) received the Warden Community Service Award in the not for profit category. OVCATA promote safe and healthy active transportation across the Ottawa Valley. Co-Chair Ron Moss received the award on behalf of the organization. Moss says OVCATA has risen to the challenge of getting people active in their municipalities, along rail-trails and for the benefits of their health, the economy and climate change.

The Eganville Leader and owner Gerald Tracey received the Warden Community Service Award in the business category. Tracey has operated the local newspaper for over 50-years and says the power of press can do a lot for the community. Tracey says the newspaper is powerful because of the generosity of readers. To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Eganville Leader in 2022, Tracey organized a fundraiser to help people in Ukraine and raised $110,000.
The Warden Community Service awards were handed out at the County of Renfrew council meeting on January 25th, 2023.
