A thrift store in Renfrew has a plan for their piggy bank.
The On the Clothesline Thrift Store on Raglan St. South will collecting money to purchase a whole cow to be processed into meat for the Renfrew Food Bank.
Sandy Gombik says donations can be made right at the cash.
She says that they’ve had a charity jar at the counter for some time, but up until now the charity they supported changed each month.
Gombik adds that they’re also looking into pork and chicken options, and she’s turning to other businesses to join in so they can pool funds quicker.
It won’t be a cheap endeavour, as she recently brought up the idea with a local farm and got an estimate of around $4,000 to $5,000 for the whole cow including butchering and packaging.
That being said, they’re eager to get fundraising underway because fresh meat is a something clients of the Renfrew Food Bank would appreciate.
