Recycling programs across Ontario will be getting a revamp, and the Renfrew and Arnprior area will be one of the first to go through it.
Renfrew’s Environmental Officer Amanda Springer says it’s to fit with the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act of 2016 that puts the responsibility of recycling materials on their producers.
Springer says Renfrew will not be alone in the upcoming transition period, as the three other local municipalities that we share a collection contract with will also be handing the reigns over to Circular Materials Ontario starting on July 28th.
Town staff are still looking for answers from the province on what recycling will look like in the years to come, but part of the plan is to have everyone in the province on the same page with what is and isn’t okay to put in our blue and yellow bins by the end of the transition period in 2026.
For now, Springer says shouldn’t see a major change in local recyclable collection at the residential level come July 28th.
She adds that the Town and Circular Materials Ontario will starting an information campaign next month to keep the community in the loop.
