Renfrew Town Council heard some good news about our tap water at their most recent meeting..
Director of Works and Development Mike Asselin joined Council on Tuesday, January 3rd, to let them know that the Water Treatment Plant is working on a system to remove manganese from the local water supply.
If you’ve been concerned about tinted drinking water during the spring and summer, manganese is the culprit.
Conditions along the Bonnechere River made it easier for the water to leech manganese from the riverbed during the Spring and Summer of 2022.
The end product was still safe to drink, but the look of the water was enough to have residents asking Asselin and his team about it.
Dissolved manganese in the raw water reacts with chlorine that’s added during the treatment process, which causes a brownish tint.
Asselin says the new manganese filtering system for the Water Treatment Plant is currently in the final planning stages.
