Cogeco has set up a temporary fix to restore service to some customers in the Ottawa Valley without phone, internet and TV. The utility provider says it looks like a vehicle collision on Highway 148 caused the outage and they are working to restore service as soon as possible. Some residents may start to see Cogeco services returning as crews have run a fiber line in a culvert under the road as a temporary solution.
Michael Nolan, the Chief Paramedic and Director of Emergency Services for the County of Renfrew, says 911 is still working, but some residents who rely on Cogeco may not be able to call in case of an emergency.
Nolan says it’s important to check up on vulnerable members of the community who may not have a cell phone or alternate way to call 911.
Nolan says the outage today might also impact some local businesses.
The Director of Emergency Services and Chief Paramedic says this serves as a good reminder to always be prepared and keep a 72-hour emergency kit nearby.

While we are working on a permanent fix we have also been working on a temporary solution.
We have used a culvert under the road to bring our fibre across. One lucky crew member got to walk the fibre across under the road.
