The County of Renfrew has welcomed the next term of elected representatives. Peter Emon will serve as Warden in 2023. Emon was nominated for the position by Admaston/Bromley Mayor Michael Donohue and Bonnechere Valley Mayor Jennifer Murphy. Emon served as Warden between 2013 and 2016 and will take over from three term Warden Debbie Robinson who did not seek re-election in the fall municipal election.
Warden Peter Emon talked about creating a greater supply of housing adding local residents shouldn’t have to chose between heating their home and buying groceries. Emon says in the next 100-days they hope to establish a County of Renfrew advisory group on housing.
Emon says the County plans to develop a workforce strategy to encourage start-ups and innovation.
The Warden in Renfrew County hopes to find sustainable funding for the Renfrew County Virtual Triage Assessment Centre (VTAC).
Emon also talked about the importance of the expansion of the Highway 17 between Renfrew and Arnprior, introducing the Butterfly Model of Care at long-term care homes, a strategic planning review and building on their relationship with the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and Garrison Petawawa.
As chair of the Ontario Winter Games organizing committee, Warden Emon says they are excited about hosting the event in February of 2023 that will welcome thousands of athletes and visitors to the region.
The new term of county council will be represented by nine new and eight returning members. The Renfrew County Council representatives took their oath of office at an inaugural meeting on Wednesday morning (November 23rd, 2022). The inaugural County Council meeting included bagpiping and smudging ceremony.
