The magic number for the Renfrew Wolves this weekend was 5, as their offense would score early and often in a pair of much needed victories this weekend.
The Wolves entered Friday’s road game with the Hawkesbury Hawks getting back on track after a rough stretch of games since the CCHL’s Thanksgiving Showcase. However, they did carry some momentum going in thanks to a 3-0 win in Brockville last week.
They would use that momentum to set the pace in the first period, where Jace Letourneau, Tyson Tomasini, and Noah Vom Scheidt scored. Elvis Slack and Brody Simpson would also score for Renfrew later in the game as the Wolves won, 5-1.
Renfrew goaltender Sebastian Resar stopped 27 of 28 shots to earn both the win and first star of the game.
They wouldn’t have too much time to celebrate the victory, though, as they headed back home for a game against the Nepean Raiders on Saturday.
Renfrew’s recently sworn in Mayor and Council were on hand for the ceremonial puck drop before the team’s offense got right back into the swing of things thanks to a pair of early goals from Elvis Slack.
Carson Walters and Will Rolston also scored to keep the game out of reach before Robert Martiniello would bury a dagger into an empty Nepean net to give the Wolves their third win in a row, 5-2.
Filling in for Resar in goal, back-up Nolan McDowell came one goal against shy of copying Friday night’s performance by saving 26 of 28 shots.
The Wolves will get a much needed break until Friday at 7:30pm, when they face the Pembroke Lumber Kings at the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre.
