The Living Wage in Renfrew County has jumped to $19.05 per hour.
The information is according to a report from the Ontario Living Wage Network released on November 14th and shows a 9.5% increase from 2021 when the living wage was $17.40 per hour.
Three local organizations are listed as Certified Living Wage employers including Somewhere Inn Calabogie, Integrated Health Centre in Pembroke and the Renfrew County Child Poverty Action Network (CPAN).
The Ontario Living Wage Network says the 2022 living wage rates range from $23.15 for the Greater Toronto Area to $18.05 in London.
The living wage is separate from minimum wage which is $15.50 per hour in Ontario.
The living wage is calculated based on the needs of a family of four with two parents each working full-time, year round. The living wage claims to cover food, clothing, shelter, childcare, transportation, medical expenses, recreation and a modest vacation. The living wage does not include retirement savings, debt repayment, home ownership and savings for children’s education.
