Sue McSheffrey from the McDougall Mill Museum with a photo of Roy Airth
Renfrew’s Public Library is set to host a story of Remembrance that goes right to the roots of the town.
They’re teaming up with Sue McSheffrey of the McDougall Mill Museum for an exhibit on Roy Airth, a young man from Renfrew who died during World War I.
McSheffrey says it all started when the Airth family donated his belongings from the war in 2016. The family had decided not to go through the items when they received them upon his death, and they were stashed away in the Airth family home.
Once they were given to the museum, they found a two-way communication between Roy and his mother through letters and postcards, as well as other artifacts.
Roy Airth was also the great grandson of Renfrew’s first resident, Sergeant Henry Airth, which makes his story one that ties into the very fabric of our town according to McSheffrey.
The Renfrew Public Library’s Emily Cross says they’re excited to work with the McDougall Mill Museum.
There are still spots available to view this special exhibit at the Renfrew Public Library on Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
You can sign up online here. You can also call Emily Cross at the library at 613-432-8151 ext. 603.
