Kids at Central Public School in Renfrew were quick to hop onto their new playground structure Thursday morning.
They watched from a small hill in the school yard representatives from both the school and community cut the ribbon on a project which has been in the works since the 2020.
The structure, which was funded collaboratively by the school, Renfrew’s Rotary Club, and community donations, is a welcome addition according to Principal Angie Miller.
Miller credits the school’s former principal, Gayle Corbin, for rallying the community to pitch in for the project during the pandemic when the school was unable to directly fundraise.
It’s a sentiment shared by the Rotary Club’s President Bruce Rozycki, who tells myFM their plans for the new $120,000 playground got underway after a talk with Corbin.
Rozycki says the school had a daunting task in replacing the old structure, which was deemed unsafe to use in 2020, and that Rotary was more than willing to help bring in the money needed.
Renfrew County District School Board Trustee Susan Humphries was also on hand for the ceremony. She says getting the community involved in improving our schools is a big part of the School Board’s strategic plan.
She adds that the need to update school playgrounds is an ongoing issue, and thanks the community for their generosity.
