It almost slipped away from them late, but the Renfrew Wolves held their ground long enough to beat the Kemptville 73’s last night, 6-5.
Both teams went into the North Grenville Municipal Centre looking to rebound from a 1-and-2 record during the CCHL’s showcase over the Thanksgiving long weekend, although Renfrew’s lone win was their opening game against the 73’s at the Bell Sensplex.
The Wolves jumped out in front early, as Elvis Slack and Noah Vom Scheidt scored within a minute of each other in the first period. Tyson Tomasini would find the net 19 seconds into the second to put Renfrew up 3-0.
Kemptville would crawl back into the game on goals from Chase Lammi and Patrick Haughian, but another Wolves goal from Jamie Hylands would keep them up by 2 heading into the third.
Joey Kennelly would find the back of the net for Renfrew, but Kemptville refused to go quietly. Grady Logue and Benjamin Campeau would get the 73’s back to within one before Hunter Brazier buried his first of the season with two seconds left to force the game into overtime.
Noah Vom Scheidt would close the door on Kemptville’s comeback attempt, scoring early in the extra frame to give Renfrew the win.
Renfrew gets the week off before heading home to the Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre on Friday, October 21st for a game with the Navan Grads. Puck drop is expected for 7:30pm.
