Town Hall may have a new tenant in the near future.
Renfrew Town Council revealed at their Tuesday, September 27th meeting that they are mulling over a new initiative from the Police Services Board that, as councilor Sandi Heins describes, would take over the old OPP station in the building.
It’s part of a larger renovation for the Town Hall that is set to get underway largely next year, as the building has been largely untouched since the last major refresh in 1985.
With the OPP no longer in the building, Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay says they could also utilize the council chambers space formerly used by the courts.
Some of the renovations will deal with accessibility, as a new ramp and barrier free washrooms on each floor are also in the plans for next year. However, Tremblay noted their immediate focus is on what they can do ahead of the Police Services Board moving in.
The hope is that the council chambers space could be ready in time for the new term of Town Council.
