The County of Renfrew and the Township are not in favour of Greater Madawaska leaving the federal riding.
It has been proposed that the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke be renamed Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke. The name change would also come along with a slight change to the boundaries of the riding and see Greater Madawaska join the renamed riding of Lanark-Frontenac.
At the end of August, County Council supported a resolution from Greater Madawaska opposing the changes that would see the Township removed from the federal riding. The Warden of Renfrew County will be sending a letter to the Federal Boundaries Commission outlining concerns.
Township staff have created an online petition and will be posting surveys in local businesses that oppose removing Greater Madawaska from the riding currently known as Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
You can sign the petition online here.
