Referees are set to be in high demand as minor hockey returns to Renfrew.
Jordan Wall, Referee-in-Chief for the Renfrew Minor Hockey Association, says it’s important to have at least two refs present for each of the lower levels, and three in stripes for upper leagues such as Under-18.
Wall adds that they’re always looking for more referees, and to contact him through the RMHA if you’re interested.
Wall does admit that it can be difficult for young refs learning the game from the referee’s perspective to handle things like parents voicing their opinions from the stands, but did tell myFM that new initiatives will hopefully give them a chance to learn on the job without intimidation.
You have until the end of the month to complete the training required to join on as a referee locally, which includes a few online modules before a day of in-person courses on October 1st.
