After months of speculation and the O’Brien Road Caboose nearly getting scrapped, work to strip the lead paint off of it will get underway.
Gladys Sidock with the Friends of the CP Caboose Group says they worked hard to prove the landmark train car’s historical value to Town Council.
Doug Sidock, also with the Friends of the CP Caboose Group, explains that fundraising to pay back the $33,000 tab covering the costs for the iconic caboose’s facelift are already underway and says the first week of returns have been positive.
The memorandum of understanding signed by both Town Council and the Friends of the Caboose Group lays out the deal: the town would front the initial fee to pay for Elite Environmental to strip down the caboose of the dangerous lead paint currently on it, while the group would have a little over a year and a half to pay them back through fundraising.
Doug says Elite Environmental are already pushing ahead with the stripping process.
Doug and Gladys note that they held a small yard sale this past weekend as part of their fundraising campaign, but add that the Friends of the CP Caboose already have about $3,000 of the required $33,000 while having barely gotten started.
You can expect to see notices for more events in support of the Caboose project in the near future.
