A new alliance in the Ottawa Valley is looking to crack the local affordable housing shortage.
The Affordable Housing Alliance of the Ottawa Valley’s 10 person committee pulls in members from Pembroke, Eganville, Madawaska Valley, North Algona Wilberforce, and Killaloe and includes senior municipal staff from multiple townships.
Through a statement, Alliance member Ish Theilheimer says that “affordable housing has become a huge issue in our area” because young working families are hard pressed to find homes they can afford to live in locally.
The AHAOV plans to hold town hall meetings in the Ottawa Valley next month and build partnerships with community organizations, municipalities and private funders to find creative solutions to the housing crunch.
They’re also getting ready to use upcoming fall election to educate, promote, and enlist support for the cause.
