There were no major splashes at the the first annual general meeting for The Ma-Te-Way Aquatic Centre Development Project.
Director Leo Hall says their meeting was meant to get priorities in order, adding that the focus is on proving local interest in a swimming pool and to provide financial support to bring one to Renfrew.
The non-profit group met with the public, as well as a couple of town councilors, at Renfrew’s Recreation Centre on Tuesday, July 26th.
Hall tells myFM that the MACDP aren’t advocating for the town to start work on a pool immediately. Instead, the group is managing and growing the Ruth Burwell Fund, a collection of community donations dating back to the 1960’s that’s worth a little over $160,000 by their estimates, to help pay for future swimming facility plans.
When it comes to getting the town’s attention on getting a swimming pool built, Hall believes the money might end up speaking louder than putting pressure on council.
The MACDP plan to continue their efforts to grow the Ruth Burwell fund, with the idea to use the money to cover costs when a Town Council is handed an official plan for a pool.
