A local student from Deep River who wants to be a filmmaker has been given $2,500 to help pursue his dream.
Mason Mantha, who recently graduated from MacKenzie Community School, won the Community First Scholarship awarded by My Broadcasting Corporation, which operates myFM, Oldies 107.7 in Arnprior and a number of other radio stations across Ontario.
It’s a simple motto, but Mantha believes community means helping your neighbours and treating them the way you want to be treated.
He says you have to pay attention to what’s happening in your community and try to do things that others will appreciate.
Mantha says being a good community minded person means helping out others and sometimes carrying more than your share.
Mantha was recently accepted to Algonquin College and says the scholarship will help him with rent and food while away from home.
