You know the old saying about death and taxes. Well, part of that is true for businesses, too.
Victoria Charbonneau, the Economic Developement Officer for the town of Renfrew, tells myFM that a special tax levy for businesses within the Business Improvement Area was set by Town Council at their June 14 meeting.
Charbonneau let myFM know that these taxes, which should total $65,000 this year, help maintain the BIA.
Charbonneau adds that the town’s annual business tax levy impacts local stores much like residential taxes for homeowners.
The BIA hosts a number of community focused events throughout the year to highlight local businesses, and provides a number of promotional and advertising initiatives, such as the Farmers Market in Low Square.
