Renfrew’s town staff now have their own Right to Disconnect policy in place, in line with a recently adopted provincial law.
Victoria Charbonneau, Renfrew’s Economic Development Officer, tells myFM that companies with 25 or more employees need to have concrete policies in place to allow workers to fully disengage from their jobs after hours.
Charbonneau adds that the town’s policy for it’s employees was already informally understood, just not laid out in writing.
While it will change how messages are relayed within Renfrew’s municipal office, Charbonneau says the Right to Disconnect law shouldn’t hamper lines of communications between the town and the community. The policy won’t get in the way of getting residents urgent help outside of office hours, either.
Ontario Bill 27, also known as the Right to Disconnect law came into effect province-wide in early June.
