Tallest white pine at Gillies Grove
The Nature Conservancy of Canada has re-opened its Gillies Grove Nature Reserve to the public.
The site was closed after the destructive derecho storm that went through parts of Ontario on May 21st.
NCC spokesperson Andrew Holland told Oldies 107.7 (myFM) on Wednesday that numerous trees were damaged and knocked down requiring the closure of trails popular with walkers, hikers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts.
Arborists and staff engaged collaboratively to assess the health of various trees and removed branches that were broken.
Holland say the public can assist in defraying the cost of clean-up by making a donation if they wish.
The NCC, contrary to public believe, is not an arm of the Federal Government, (what you’re thinking of is the National Capital Commission), it is a not-for-profit that would appreciate your patronage.
