Renfrew is joining on with a pilot project to help keep food waste out of landfills.
Town Council agreed to try out FoodCycle Science’s FoodCycler, a electric countertop unit that can compost one kilogram of food waste in eight hours.
Reeve Peter Emon tells myFM the FoodCycler has had success in other municipalities.
As part of the project, the town is set to purchase 100 FoodCyclers to resell them to the community at a subsidized price.
Emon says while the town still appreciates traditional composing, the Foodcycler has some distinct advantages over backyard composers.
Emon and Town Council expect the FoodCycler project to take off once it gets into the hands of the community.
Emon adds to keep your eye on the town’s website as more information on the FoodCycler project is released.
