Renfrew Town Council approved a slight increase to your property tax bill, in line with the rising cost of running the town.
Council went ahead with a 3.5% increase to their annual tax levy at their May 10th meeting, as the town expects to need just over $9.2 million in total tax funds to offset their operating expenses.
Speaking to council at the meeting, Acting Treasurer Erin Broome explained that property tax makes up the vast majority of the yearly levy that helps finance the town’s operations.
The subject of the tax levy was broached at a special budget meeting earlier in May, where it was revealed the average single family home would pay a little over $70 more on their property tax bill this year over 2021.
Council also approved new penalties and interest rates for property taxes not paid on time.
