The County of Renfrew is looking to secure a multi-year commitment into 2025 to support the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RC VTAC).
RC VTAC and new Clinical Assessment Centres currently have funding secured for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
An additional $400,000 has been requested to tie RC VTAC and Clinical Assessment Centres to the Renfrew County Integrated Virtual Care program for unattached patients.
Since the launch of RC VTAC more than two years ago, 19,258 individuals have been served, approximately 80 per cent without a family doctor.
Through RC VTAC, there have also been 48,018 family physician assessments, 5,354 paramedic in-home assessments and 66,319 COVID-19 tests administered.
Services to patients were provided by 50 family physicians during the pandemic and currently 30 family physicians, seven paramedics and 26 medical receptionists who continue to deliver RC VTAC services.
Approximately 25,000 residents of the County of Renfrew do not have a primary-care provider, representing about one-quarter of the population.
