In advance of Earth Day, (Friday) Arnprior Regional Health is celebrating a reduction in its annual emissions.
Thanks to significant infrastructure investments annual emissions have been reduced by 157 tonnes of carbon dioxide (an equivalent to 66,883 litres of gas consumed) resulting in annual savings of $183,588.
This stems from decisions made in the 2015-16 five-year strategic facility renewal plan.
Through a competitive procurement process, Trane was selected as the redevelopment partner, leading to significant upgrades at the Hospital and new Grove Nursing Home.
Upgrades have now been made over multiple years, including a new high efficiency heating plant, the installation of LED lighting, the replacement of Air handling units increasing air volumes, the installation of low flow water fixtures, a new domestic hot water system, new humidification system, new building automation system, the replacement of all windows- and some old fashioned caulking and sealing.
At the new Grove, investments were made to increase the building’s performance and safety, enhance residents’ comfort, and help reduce emissions: central air conditioning being the most obvious.
In 2021, the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES) awarded ARH with the Wayne McLellan Award of Excellence in Healthcare Facilities Management because of these initiatives.
ARH and Trane are celebrating Earth Day with staff activities, education, and events.
