Arnprior Council has reviewed a report on remuneration for elected representatives as compiled by an independent ad hoc committee of citizens and municipal staff.
The decision on what to do with the recommendations was put off for a couple of meetings so that all members could discuss it at the first live session in a couple of years- which was held Monday (April 11th).
That’s Mayor Walter Stack, who says while the hard work by the committee is appreciated, members settled on figures very close to the compensation paid in Carleton Place- 48 thousand-plus for the Mayor and just under 20 thousand a year for each councillor.
Stack says by not radically increasing the compensation offered for the tasks, the municipality runs the risk of qualified people deciding not to put their names forward in this Fall’s Municipal Election.
The vote on the compensation adjustments for the coming term was unanimous.
