The County of Renfrew is lifting COVID-19 vaccine requirements in most settings.
Roughly five months ago (November 2021), the County of Renfrew adopted a vaccination policy in direct response to a request from Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Cushman and with guidance from the integrity commissioner Guy Giorno.
The County of Renfrew vaccination policy covered staff, students and volunteers at county workplaces. Those not vaccinated against COVID-19 had to undergo weekly testing and vaccine hesitancy training.
With Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health saying that vaccination policies in workplaces are no longer necessary, Renfrew County Council voted to repeal the corporate vaccination policy on March 30th, 2022.
Dr. Cushman has also recommended that municipal government be in sync with the provincial government in terms of vaccination policies.
The Town of Petawawa, Township of Laurentian Valley, the City of Pembroke and Whitewater Region have all dropped the requirements for municipal staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19 vaccination or get tested weekly.
County Council did supported a recommendation from the Health Committee to postpone lifting restrictions for staff, visitors and support workers at county run long-term care homes (Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew and Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke).
