Planning is underway for the first “Water and Dirt” Festival coming to the Ottawa Valley. Recreation programmer for the Town of Petawawa Colin Coyle says the event will take place from August 4th to the 14th, 2022. He says they will use the Ottawa River, Lake Dore, the trails at Forest Lea, the bike park in Petawawa and Skate Park in Pembroke during the 10-day festival.
Coyle says the Town of Petawawa, City of Pembroke, Township of Laurentian Valley and North-Algona-Wilberforce Township are teaming up to host this new festival. The Water and Dirt Festival will build off already popular events that have taken place in the Ottawa Valley. Coyle says the festival will include the Upper Ottawa River Race, OSPCA Doggy Paddle, the Kayak Fishing Tournament, mountain bike races, skateboarding, a triathlon, whitewater kayaking and a BMX competition.
With Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) of Chalk River recently announced as the title sponsor of the event, Coyle says this means all activities for kids under the age of 12 will be free.
He adds the support leading up to this event from the community has been tremendous. Coyle says event organizers are excited to be able to host a safe and fun festival to get the community out and invite others to the area. He says the Water and Dirt Festival will provide an economic boost to the region and plans are in the works to make it a yearly event.
More details about registration and the upcoming Water and Dirt Festival will be released in the coming weeks and months. You can check out wateranddirt.ca for more information.
