A Whitewater Region Township man is facing some serious charges after a traffic stop in Laurentian Valley. Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say they responded to a possible impaired driver call on Highway 17 around 7:30 Sunday night. Officers tracked down the vehicle on Mud Lake Road. Drugs were seized by police during the investigation and officers were spit on and assaulted but not injured. After an investigation, 41-year-old Marty Matthews was arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl, driving while impaired by drugs, failure or refusal to comply with demand, and four counts of assaulting a peace officer. During the release process mischief was committed to the cell area of the Detachment. As a result, he was further charged with one count of mischief under $5000.
