A Renfrew High School will once again be the host of a COVID-19 vaccine clinic his week. Renfrew Collegiate Institute is teaming with the RCDHU to host the clinic Wednesday (February, 23rd) to any eligible students to receive either their first, second, or booster dose. In general, youth age 12-17 are eligible for a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine 6 months after they received their second dose. Completed parent or guardian consent forms can be brought to the clinic on Wednesday.
Students are often worried about getting needles of any kind. The following tips may help your child to have a more positive immunization experience:
1. Discuss the vaccines and school clinics with your child. Depending on how
your child copes, older children may benefit from longer preparation time.
2. Answer your child’s questions honestly and use words that minimize or
reduce anxiety – e.g., “you may feel pressure, squeezing, or poking”. Avoid
using words such as “pain, hurt, or sting”.
3. Stay calm, speak in an even and soft tone of voice and stay positive.
Children easily pick up on their parent’s fears, hesitations and/or emotions
