The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) has the A-Trail running through downtown Pembroke listed as officially open.
This comes after several years of debate in the council chambers over allowing motorized vehicles on the Algonquin Trail in the City of Pembroke.
Pembroke City Councillor Brian Abdallah stopped to talk to the President of the Timberline Snowmobile Club over the Family Day long weekend as the groomer was passing through the downtown core.
The local snowmobile club says the speed limit for this section is only 20 kilometers an hour.
Contractors have been busy over the past couple of weeks addressing bridges and other concerns before the trail could safely open.
Now that the A-Trail in Pembroke is open, residents can ride from Smiths Falls past Petawawa without a break on the trail.
A reminder that the Algonquin Trail is a multi-use trail for motorized and non-motorized traffic.
All users are reminded to obey the rules and respect the posted signs.
