Do you think the Mayor’s position in Arnprior should be full-time and the job deserves a big raise?
That’s the principal question elected representatives are considering after receiving a detailed report from an Ad Hoc Committee investigating the question of Council remuneration for the next term of office.
The report, presented Monday evening by Chris Couper on behalf of the ad hoc committee, drew many positive responses around the Council table.
However, following extensive discussion members voted to defer any decision to the next meeting- when a full compliment of representatives can be in attendance, rather than risk the possibility a tie vote could jettison the work of the independent committee.
Mayor Walter Stack, who led a similar project at the upper tier when he held the position of Reeve, was not opposed to concepts presented in Chris Couper’s report
Stack believes the increased compensation recommended would help attract a diversity of candidates to be interested in the position.
The matter was put over to the February 28th agenda for further discussion.
