The province has recognized one from the Ottawa Valley with the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. Jamie Sarazin from Pikwakangan has been awarded the honor. The award recognizes the leadership, innovation, and creativity of individual volunteers, volunteer administrators, and volunteer organizations that support communities across Ontario. Only 15 individual people have been given the award in the province along with 8 organizations.
Journalist, author, and Order of Ontario appointee, June Callwood was one of Canada’s most well-known social activists who founded or co-founded more than 50 Canadian social action organizations. The award bearing her name recognizes the leadership, innovation, and creativity of individual volunteers, volunteer administrators, and volunteer organizations who support communities across Ontario. There are two award categories – the Outstanding Volunteer Award and the Excellence in Volunteer Management Award.
Ontarians are also encouraged to nominate outstanding volunteers in their local community for 2022. The deadline for 2022 June Callwood Award nominations is February 18th.
