Hundreds of people and vehicles are lined up along the side of Highway 17 between Pembroke and Petawawa, hours before a “freedom convoy” travels through the area on the way to Ottawa.
Shortly before 5:00pm, supporters of the trucker convoy in the could be seen along Highway 17 in the Ottawa Valley warming up at bonfires, waving Canada flags, with signs reading freedom 2022, strong and free, or proud again to be Canadian.
The convoy is protesting vaccine mandates and COVID-19 restrictions in Canada.
The trucker convoy was expected to arrive in Pembroke around 4:30pm and Arnprior for 6:00pm, but has been delayed by several hours.
If you plan to attend or watch the convoy drive-by, you might want to bundle up.
An extreme cold warning has been issued across the Ottawa Valley with temperatures expected to drop down to minus 36 overnight with a risk of frostbite.
Local police are warning of significant traffic delays as a result of the increased number of vehicles on the highway.
