As Alzheimer’s Awareness Month draws to a close next Monday, we may have forgotten about the event as the COVID-19 virus has blunted traditional fundraising initiatives.
Reporter Emily Moore spoke with Cathy Barrick, the CEO of Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario on how the pandemic has quashed traditional in-person aspects of the campaign- while not impacting donor loyalties.
But how has the pandemic impacted those living with Alzheimers?
Barrick says given that a majority of long term care residents have some form of dementia, there was a proportionate share of fatalities- while those whose interest was sparked by in-person programming saw those activities curtailed.
The CEO of Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario says a special online initiative, Making Kind Connections, allows individuals to inspire donations from within those comprising their personal bubble.
While the awareness campaign ends Monday, the principle is applicable year-round.
