Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning across much of Eastern Ontario including here in the Ottawa Valley.
Temperatures are expected to drop down to minus 29 tonight (January 10th, 2022) and feel like minus 34 overnight with a risk of frostbite.
Environment Canada says bitterly cold arctic air combined with light winds will bring extremely cold wind chills to the regions beginning near midnight
Wind chills will improve Tuesday morning after sunrise.
The extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Watch for cold related symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Dress warmly and in layers that you can remove if you get too warm.
The outer layer should be wind resistant.
Be sure to cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
