Renfrew OPP is releasing tips for parents about how kids can be safe online and stay away from cyberbullying and sexual exploitation.
OPP is particularly concerned about self-peer exploitation in which youth share sexual content with peers on the internet, and then unintentionally victimizing themselves when this content goes viral.
Police say most kids cannot cope with the humiliation these events cause and become depressed, anxious and sometimes suicidal.
OPP advises parents to talk to their kids about possible threats with this online behaviour and to assure them that they are a safe and trustworthy person.
Additionally, it is a crime to share intimate images or videos of someone without their consent.
