The Ontario Provincial Police across East Region are investigating several thefts of high end and newer motor vehicles.
Police alert you that a professional can steal your vehicle in just 30 seconds – without the key.
Vehicles with keyless ignition that engage with a fob are particularly vulnerable, as these can be overridden with a thief’s hand-held device.
The solution here is to invest in a steering wheel lock bar.
Other security investments include an outdoor camera system, and/or motion-detecting lights.
Put your keys in your pocket, roll up your windows and lock your doors.
Park your vehicle inside the garage if you can.
Auto Theft in Canada carries an annual 1.2 billion dollar price tag; there are cars that are stolen just to commit another crime- and those taken by organized rings for resale.
In either case, the OPP is committed the finding those responsible for ongoing vehicle thefts across eastern Ontario.
