Laurentian Valley is letting the County of Renfrew know they have no alternative routes to take motorized vehicles off of the Algonquin Trail.
Municipalities who want do not want motorized traffic such as snowmobiles, ATV’s and UTV’s on the Algonquin Trail, are required to find alternative routes.
Last winter, Laurentian Valley let the county know they had no alternative routes for snowmobiles.
The municipality has now exhausted all avenues to find an alternative route for ATV’s and UTV’s.
There was discussion about purchasing a section of the CN line to detour motorized traffic off the Algonquin Trail, however now that it’s been sold to a private developer, Laurentian Valley has no other options.
Laurentian Valley council has been discussing options for several years and last night (Oct. 19th, 2021) finally determined no alternate routes were available.
Negotiations with CN go back to 2016, but due to liability concerns and costs, no agreements were reached.
With no alternatives routes to re-route motorized traffic off of the Algonquin Trail, Councillor Brian Hugli suggested asking the county to implement speed limits, noise limits and dust control in the residential areas.
