COVID-19 vaccination rates continue to climb in Renfrew County and District.
According to the RCDHU, as of Wednesday morning (October 6th, 2021), 87 percent of local residents have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) says 152,841 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the region.
The health unit says 82.1 percent of eligible residents (born in 2009 or earlier) have received two or three doses.
Third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are being administered in long-term care homes across Renfrew County and District.
Residents are reminded that even if you have been vaccinated, it’s important to continue following public health measures, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask and hand hygiene.
In addition to proof of vaccination being required to do a number of things in Ontario, the federal government has announced that public service, air travel and rail employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says exemptions will be difficult and onerous to obtain, and simply having a personal conviction that vaccines are “bad” will not be sufficient.
Ontario’s chief medical officer of health has said the rate of legitimate medical exemptions should be about one-to-five in 100,000 people.
