Conservative Member of Parliament Cheryl Gallant has been reelected in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke for an eighth straight term.
Gallant thanked everyone for their hard work over the election campaign and also thanked voters for putting their confidence in her.
Gallant pledged to make life more affordable while uniting people, families and the community.
With over 90% of polling stations having reported back information in riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, Gallant took in 23,089 votes (49.6%).
Coming second in the riding with 9,930 votes (21.1%) was NDP Candidate Jodie Primeau.
The lawyer from Deep River says she ran a positive campaign.
Primeau plans to run for again in the next federal election.
Liberal Candidate Cyndi Mills had 8,741 votes (18.8%), good for third place.
Mills congratulated Cheryl on her reelection adding it was a privilege to have her name on the ballot and a pleasure to talk to community members throughout the riding about the issues that matter to them.
David Ainsworth of the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) brought in 3,712 votes (8%).
Ainsworth says COVID-19 presented challenges during the election campaign.
Former Green Party representative, Michael Lariviere, took in 880 votes (1.9%).
Lariviere says he offered an apology for comments he made comparing COVID-19 vaccine passports to the German military tattooing people during World War II.
Independent candidate Stefan Klietsch had 311 votes (0.7%) in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
Klietsch says he’s unsure if he will run in the next election.
Gallant has held the seat in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke since the year 2000, when she won it as a member of the Canadian Alliance.
She has run as a Conservative since the two parties merged. Prior to that, the riding had been held by the Liberals for over 20 years.
