Quebec’s civilian police oversight agency is investigating after a teen driver crashed in Pontiac on Sunday afternoon while being pursued by police.
The Ottawa Citizen reports Quebec’s Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), listed the 18-year-old as in serious condition in hospital, in its release Sunday.
Investigators were told that an MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police officer travelling on Route 148 clocked a speeding vehicle at about 4:50PM that afternoon.
The officer made a U-turn in pursuit.
During the chase, the driver is reported to have lost control of his vehicle.
Five BEI investigators are assigned to the case and the agency will rely on the SQ for assistance from a collision reconstructionist.
Witnesses are asked to get in touch with the agency through its website.
The BEI, Quebec’s equivalent to the SIU, investigates incidents in which a person other than an on-duty police officers dies, suffers a serious injury or is injured by a firearm used by a police officer during a police action or while being detained.
