The Town of Arnprior is sponsoring an application to have the D.A. Gillies Building in the downtown core as a National Historic Site.
Arnprior and District Museum Curator Janet Carlile says the structure’s credentials are impeccable.
Carlile addressed Council in support of sponsoring the application as a National Historic Site at its meeting of June 28th, and a resolution of municipal support is the lead item for any designation request.
The Curator says the application could take up to two years to process, but if successful, the site will receive a bronze commemoration plaque and the Federal government would contribute fifty percent of any reconstruction costs necessary to retain the museum as a national treasure.
