Representative Ted Strike’s motion on reeling in All-Terrain vehicles with modified exhausts has won the support of his peers at Council.
Presented as a Notice of Motion at the June 14th meeting, Strike spoke to the din the ATVs make as they exit the Algonquin Trail at its intersection with Thomas Street South and gun their machines up the Thomas Street incline.
Mayor Walter Stack observes the distraction is muted when riders obey the posted limits while on the Algonquin Trail.
The Mayor notes that when the County-owned trail opened, most municipalities then voted to allow companion ATV traffic on their streets, to facilitate merging with and exiting the trail- but some of the younger riders are not being respectful of the privilege.
