There’s disappointment once again being expressed with a perceived lack of inclusivity within Arnprior Council chambers.
Resident Sophie Smith-Dore and Arnprior PRIDE along with Pflag, had worked with Town Operations Staff since last October on costing a request and the logistics of installation for both Rainbow and transgendered crosswalks in Arnprior’s downtown core.
Steckley, in presenting a report on the matter at Monday’s (the June 14th) Council meeting, indicated the ask was consistent with the Town’s inclusivity policy.
From there, Smith Dore believes discussion took a nose-dive.
Grinstead indicated her remarks opposing a white pink and blue crosswalk had been formulated following her consultations with those affected.
Smith-Dore says discussion came to a crash landing following comments by Councillor Dan Lynch.
Operations Manager John Steckley indicated there would be a joint press release from the Town and Arnprior PRIDE on the approved installation of a Rainbow crosswalk at the corner of John and Elgin Streets, but Smith-Dore, upon reading the proposed release, says not so fast.
The Rainbow crosswalk will be installed the week of June 21st.
