Long-term care homes in Ontario are now required to implement COVID-19 immunization policies.
Under the new policies each staff member must do one of the following:
- Provide proof of vaccination of each dose;
- Provide a documented medical reason for not being vaccinated; or
- Participate in an educational program about the benefits of vaccination and the risks of not being vaccinated.
Director of long-term care with the County of Renfrew, Shelley Sheedy, says both Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew and Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke have immunization policies in place.
All long-term care residents who want a COVID-19 vaccine have received both doses and staff are receiving second doses this week and next week.
Sheedy says 88% of staff and 93% of residents at Bonnechere Manor consented to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
She adds 91% of staff and 99% of residents at Miramichi Lodge will also be fully vaccinated.
